You made it!  After endless weeks of planning, plotting, scheming and saving, you’ve not only managed to make it to Vancouver 2010 safely but you’ve even managed to settled into your gorgeous furnish vacation rental and put your jetlag to rest with a good night’s sleep.  And now, full of espresso, enthusiasm and expectation you’re ready to commute to your first ever Olympic venue to cheer your country on towards gold!

Ten minutes later you’re standing in the rain surrounded by a dizzying whirlwind of buses, sea buses, skytrains, taxis and pontoon planes, not to mention a couple of million annoyingly chipper Vancouverites…  oh, and you forgot your umbrella.

juegos chicas Getting around the 2010 Winter Olympics doesn’t have to be this difficult.  In fact, the city of Vancouver has gone to great lengths to ease the to-and-fro aspects of your Olympic experience.  But before you embark there are several important facts that must be taken to heart before arriving on Canada’s West Coast:

-Your umbrella is your best friend.  Whether you’re lining up for the speed skating events on the Fraser River Delta or bashing your cowbell with abandon at Whistler’s downhill venue, it’s either going to be raining, snowing or sunny. (and sometimes all in one day)  So with the odds stacked depressingly against you, chances are that something’s going to be falling out of the sky.  Don’t flip the bird at the weather gods.  Be prepared.

 -Leave the car at the rental lot.  One thing you won’t find at Vancouver’s Olympic Venues is spectator parking.  Why?  Imagine the parking lot at the JC Penny Boxing Day Sale.  Now multiply that by a billion.  Get the picture?  Save your money for a few après-event drinks.  Hey, it’s not like you’re driving!

The key to Olympic happiness is really that simple.  An umbrella and public transportation.  Remember, this is a city that including its municipalities covers 96 kilometres that play home to 2.1 million people.  Venues pepper the map from the Richmond lowlands to the City Centre to Cypress Mountain.  Even the Whistler venues are just 3 hours north.  In a city this big, there are numerous methods of getting around if you just know where to look.  And with Vancouver’s drive toward environmental sustainability these methods are not only easy and convenient – they’re also affordable.  

Metropolitan Vancouver is serviced by Translink, the company that controls the SeaBuses that navigate the Burrard Inlet, the city buses, the West Coast Express commuter train and the automated rapid transit system commonly known as the SkyTrain.  Originally built to connect Vancouver’s eastern suburbs with the Downtown Core, the newly expanded SkyTrain features the Canada Line, a 16-stop, 25-minute connector between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the City Centre.  Of course, if you’re coming via Vancouver Island or any of the smaller Gulf Islands for that matter, the BC Ferry fleet boast the new, impressive Super Ferries that make this short sail as pleasurable as it is memorable.

homes for sale Translink’s commuter buses alone provide an ideal form of transportation with countless routes, frequent service and multiple stops.  And fulfilling Vancouver’s role as a world leader in progressive transportation systems, they also provide a wide range of accessible routes and adaptive services.  The majority of buses are either lift-equipped or have low-floor access.  Part of the City of Vancouver’s Host City Transportation Concept Plan includes an additional fleet of buses dedicated solely to transporting spectator to and from Olympic venues.  Other Game-time improvements will include 48 new SkyTrain cars, a third SeaBus and 85 additional buses joining the 115 that were recently added.  

Temporary measures will also be activated once the torch had been lit.  The West Coast Express will add half a dozen more weekday trips and 16 more weekend trips for an 80% capacity increase during the Games.  Some 180 more buses and 30 more HandyDART vehicles will join the Metro Vancouver fleet. SeaBus and SkyTrain schedules will implement extended hours.  Current parking restrictions will be enforced 24-7 in particular downtown areas.  City foot traffic will increase substantially when certain roads are re-designated as pedestrian corridors.  And none of these improvements will inhibit local business nor hamper residential access.  Did we mention that Vancouver’s a world leader in transportation?

In the second round of election, Rio secured 46 votes, Madrid 29 and Tokyo 20. Hence, Japan had to make its exit, after the second round was over. Since, no candidate city had secured more than 50 + votes in the second round of voting, a third and final round of voting was necessitated.

In the third round of voting, the contest was narrowed between Brazil and Spain, in which Brazil scored 66 votes and Spain scored only 32 votes; thereby Rio De Janeiro became the winner candidate.

The Historic Announcement:

On 2, October,2009;1830 hours; The IOC President, Jacques Rogge made the historic announcement that Rio De Janeiro would host the summer Olympics of 2016, creating a sensation across the world and making the people of Brazil ecstatic.For the first time in the history of Olympics, Rio De Janeiro, a city of Brazil, a South American country has been chosen to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Over the next years, Nuzman, as Brazil’s top volleyball leader, backep up a host of national teams, clubs, coaches, and players. Contrary to most Olympic leaders, he did not accept that a Brazilian volleyball player can play in Europe and Asia. But Nuzman’s reward for his perseverance came in 1987. Without a doubt, he made the world headlines when the Brazilian women’s volleyball team won the 1987 FIVB Junior World Cup in Seoul, whose victory put an end to Korea’s attempt to become the first squad to win three world championships. All his life, he dreamed about winning it. For more than ten years, Nuzman, a former volleyball player, worked daily for several hours at a stretch. From then onwards, there were a host of international awards, including an Olympic gold medal (1992). During his leadership, Brazil also hosted dozens of international championships.

Brazil is home to a number of well-known individuals: Edson Arantes do Nascimento (the so-called “Pele”/ soccer), Oscar Niemeyer (architect), Gisele Bundchen (a top supermodel), and Carlos Jobim (composer of “The Girl of Ipanema”), but Carlos Nuzman is perhaps the most popular Brazilian in this century because he has put the sports on top of the national agenda in Brazil, an Olympic-obsessed Latin American nation You can be published without charge. The answer…it depends. When brand new to swimming the most important thing is to develop swimming skills and technique. This involves developing proper mechanics through the whole stroke and a good feel for the water. At this time paddles are not beneficial. As the paddles will prevent you from truly feeling the water and developing the proper mechanics needed when swimming in a race situation.

Pulling a pair of paddles through the water may put extra stress on these areas creating more pain or break down of the area. It is important to note that in most cases the paddles are not the issue in the injury. Usually it is due to a muscular imbalance and paddles are just exposing it.

FSBO When an athlete becomes more experienced in swimming the paddles can then become useful. Stronger swimmers tend to have technique pretty figured out and gains in speed will come more from fitness. Paddles then become useful as they can develop more strength and power by using them.

What’s the best cadence?

There is no “best” cadence…it depends on your personal physiology, your training background and your performance goals.  Most people will have a naturally selected cadence, but that doesn’t mean this is your optimal cadence.   In my experience working with newer cyclists, or cyclists who are just getting interested in racing have a cadence on the lower side anywhere from 60 to 75 rpm, while more experienced cyclists tend to have a cadence anywhere from 75 to 95rpm.  Frequently people have the mistaken notion that they should be “working hard” on the bike which forces them to use a harder gear than necessary and slows down their cadence.

By shifting to an easier gear, the amount of force or energy required to push down the pedal is slightly less, enabling the cyclists to pedal slightly faster.  It’s not so much the faster cadence that is helpful, but the fact that you don’t have to push quite as hard with each pedal stroke.  For most people, this slight energy savings adds up over time and allows them to ride further and faster with less energy, not to mention being able to have a great run leg.

When looking for a triathlon bicycle, consider the distances you will be competing in and correlate this with the budget you have available. I highly recommend that, if your budget is tight, you consider purchasing a used triathlon bike. They are normally well looked after and cared for and normally only for sale by an experienced triathlete who is upgrading so as to compete in longer events.
