There are hundreds of different variations of poker card games that you can play. Poker is a great social game, as it allows you to converse and spend time with your friends while also being a little competitive. As most people can play poker, learning how to play the various poker card games will allow you to get together with other friends that are playing poker. All poker card games involve trying to beat the hands of the other players at the table. This is done by bluffing them into folding, or getting a good hand. Bluffing is a common tactic in poker card games, and is used to either try to lure players into betting more money when you have a good hand, or to get them to fold by thinking that you have a better hand than you actually do. Bluffing is a strategy that many people try to master, although few do.

Getting a good hand is often a matter of luck in poker games, especially in games such as five card stud and Texas Hold ‘Em. Both of these games do not allow you to throw away cards you have in your hand and draw new ones. Three card draw is an example of a game that allows you to throw away up to three cards and draw three new ones. This gives players a better chance at winning, as they have a chance of drawing up to a better hand.

One of the key factors in playing poker card games well is to know when to fold. Folding, or throwing your hand into the pot to signal that you are no longer betting and petting, can let you out of a hand that you have no chance of winning. This is commonly done in games like Jacks or Better, where the person who is opening the bid has to have a pair of Jacks in order to open. Many players will fold if they do not have a pair or a set of cards likely to hit, as they have no method of beating what opened the pot for betting.
