Now That Winter Has Arrived, It Would Be So Much Better Lying At The Beach

So many people dread the onset of winter with it’s promise of snow, messy driving conditions, and of course the cold weather. For others, this truly is the most wonderful time of the year. Time to strap the skis on the roof, pull the warmest winter coat out of storage, and hit the slopes. Whether a person is an expert who heads directly to the black diamonds, or a novice who prefers the bunny slope, both are sure to have a great time with the wind and snow blowing against their cheeks.
Safety while skiing is extremely important. This means that people should always be courteous to other skiers. Clearly this means exercising caution and yielding the right-of-way to small children, elderly people, and well, people who clearly just do not know what they are doing. Many ski areas have instituted new policy which requires all people to wear a ski helmet. This is absolutely necessary for children, however an adult who has an accident will fare much better if they are wearing one as well.
Who has ever heard of a person skiing in their pajamas? It is true people come down the hill in the craziest outfits. Sleepwear, leather motorcycle gear, even people dressed like Santa clause or elves can all be seen coming down the hill on skis. Spring skiing is the most ridiculous, when you see people wearing bikinis. Anyone who has ever fallen down on ice or snow can imagine what these individuals look like after one fall.
These are the same people who love creating ice sculptures, building snowmen, and sledding, all followed by a nice warm cup of cocoa. To these individuals this is indeed a winter wonderland.
Can this really compare to the warm sand, salty air, and smells of the beach? Bikinis and shorts were indeed created for summertime and the beach. Kids playing, building sand castles, Frisbees flying around, radios blasting, and everyone is having a great time. Yes indeed, summertime is the best.
And now, back to reality, back to snow shovels and ice scrapers. Time to curl up by a warm fire. Time to dress the children in suffocatingly snug snowsuits and mittens. Maybe when the new baby is placed into the crib with it’s Ladybug baby bedding, we can pretend that the ladybugs are arriving with the spring breeze.
Until winter is through, it will have to be a dream.
