If you are like me, you will probably have no difficulty in understanding the significance of soccer practice games as compared to drills. Initially, the games must focus on helping the kids acquire the skills and improving their movement with the ball. Nonetheless, it’s your duty to pay attention to some pointers while the kids move forward in their soccer training.

As has already been talked about earlier, kids get an opportunity to develop their own special playing style with having fun when divided into groups. Initially, restrict the size of the groups to very few players which will give them enough freedom to make decisions out of their free will.

Such an arrangement also ensures that the kids have more space to move about in the field, get more touches on the ball and become more accountable for their choices since there are very few players in the group.

However, as players get accustomed to smaller groups and their skills improve, it is time to make some variations. Now is the time to launch progressions in soccer practice games. This means that more players should be added, game rules should become stricter, and make the kids practice in larger fields. It’s time when team’s overall objectives should also be catered to together with player’s individual development by bringing in a more elaborate strategy.

The objectives may not be met if you rush with things, make a lot of rules, and expose kids to a lot of knowledge soon enough. This obstructs their process of learning and growth.

When kids progress from smaller groups to larger ones, they should inculcate team spirit and understand the objectives behind the games. It is crucial to understand the difference between focusing on your own skills at one time and then using those skills to win the games for your team.

In this period, along with games, you must also encourage free dialog with your team. Keep in mind that the players now understand the game and its techniques. As a result, it is a blunder to ignore their skills in soccer exercises.

When you involve them in the decision making, it makes them responsible and they share their thoughts more openly.

The games should now focus on helping the kids develop game winning strategies on their own. When the players think themselves as a team and not as individual players, you have succeeded in your job as a coach.
