Sports Psychology Awareness

| April 9, 2010

For athletes sports psychology is important so that there is a balance between the sports and personal life. Sports psychology gives a lot of benefits for athletes. Read on to find out about these benefits.

One of the important benefits of sports psychology is that it helps athletes focus on their goals leaving any possible distractions behind. An athlete can have the ability to concentrate toward his goal as a sports figure. Athletes will be enabled to ignore things that will not add to the achievement of their goal.

Sports psychology also develops the self-confidence of athletes. Self-confidence will add to the achievement of their goal which is the exact opposite of self-doubt. It is good when an athlete practices the lessons he or she learned from sports psychology. Athletes who really believe in their capabilities will eventually outperform other athletes.

Sports psychology also adds emotional control to an athlete’s arsenal. If an athlete can learn how to control his or her emotions then the goal is half-achieved already. Sports psychology teaches athletes to be in control of their emotions both in sports and in life.

And lastly, athletes will gain the benefit of how to deal with other people surrounding him in a very affirmative way. Sports psychology does not only focus on the mental and emotional areas of an athlete but also to his social aspect. He will learn how to earn trust from all the people around him. This are helpful things he can do to have a successful career in the sports industry.

So there are the benefits you can get from sports psychology. This is why having athletes undergo sports psychology is important.

The power of the mind in sports

| January 14, 2010

Sports is one thing most people participate in one form or another. This is the way many people get their physical exercise. For other people it is a very serious undertaking, some of them even do it to earn their living. What other people do not realize is that though being an athletic person will help you in sports, the willpower also plays a major role in it. So in this article we are going to delve into how the mind will play an important part in sports.

There is no more glaring fact that shows how important the mind is in sports then when you watch professional sports. You will notice that although most of the athletes look similar physically, some are better than others. And this is due to the fact that some have minds which are stronger compared to others. You see it when great athletes choke under pressure. That is because their mind has not been trained to its full potential. As a sports psychologist Del Mar working with athletes has helped me see how true that is.

Working in sports psychology has provided me the chance to see how the mind can break good athletes. These are athletes that seem to have it all but family pressures seem to cause them to fail under pressure. That is when many families call my family counselor practice to help them excel. That is when I see first hand how working with the mind can change their success.

A lot of times I also see athletes failing because they can’t get a hold of their anger. This primal emotion can cause them to fail when performing in their contest. A lot of times just being able to address them in my anger management counseling practice has helped them. By holding their temper they can experience a greater chance of success.

So the major factor to consider is that the mind will also take a major role in your success in sports. If you want to succeed in sports you have to learn how to train your mind also.
