Become An Arm Wrestling Legend
knowledge | August 11, 2010
Are you someone who loves to demolish another in an old fashioned arm wrestling match? If so, there are a variety of techniques and exercises that an individual can do to improve their arm wrestling skills. There is no better feeling than pinning down someone bigger or stronger than you and that is just what you will be able to do if you keep the following in mind.
An arm wrestling success weighs heavily on the strength of one’s biceps and triceps. There is little you can do if your muscles are a fraction of your opponent’s. If you are competing against someone with comparable size there are techniques that will give you the competitive edge you need to succeed.
The Press Move
Immediately after the wrestling match starts you should be thinking about “pressing” your opponents hand in a way that forces their palm up towards the ceiling. To do this it will require a quick flip of the wrist accompanied by a lot of pressure. Be careful because this move and do you more bad than good if not done properly. Once you have your opponents palm facing the ceiling he or she is at a positional disadvantage. Applying sheer pressure from this point on will lead you to victory.
Captain Hook
Become as intimidating as Captain Hook by using this technique in your next arm wrestling match. The hook technique is done by simply curling your hand inwards so that your knuckles are pointing at your abdomen. In order to have a better chance at winning, keep your arm close to your side. Allowing your arm to slip away from your side will not allow you to execute this move effectively. Once your hand is curled as far as it will go, use your arm to force your opponents arm to the table. This move works because your opponent’s hand and arm combination will become significantly weaker with your wrist curled around theirs.
Exercises
You might want to devote some time to different exercises if you find that the techniques discussed previously are not helping your arm wrestling skills. Bench pressing large amount of weight is the best way to get your triceps into tip top shape. This exercise also works out the bicep and pectoral muscles.
Dumbbell curls can be done to pump up your bicep muscles. Start with a dumbbell in each hand with your palms facing your body. Lower the dumbbells to hang at each side of your waist. Pull up each dumbbell individually so that the end of the dumbbell almost hits your shoulder. Your thumb should be the closest finger to your shoulder at the top of the curl.
You are on your way to becoming the next arm wrestling legend if you keep these techniques and exercises in mind. Fear can be your worst enemy. Clear your mind before each match and have confidence that you are more skilled than your opponent. Confidence alone can intimidate your opponent. If you do not succeed right away then keep working at it. Nothing worthwhile comes easy- not even arm wrestling.
