A Guide To Buying Trampolines
Games Guy | December 21, 2011
Trampolines, without doubt, are good, healthy, even addictive fun. If you want to experience the thrill of free fall within the confines of your home, get a trampoline. The newer models will let you reach higher and further up. Sure, they cannot launch you into space, but they sure can bring out the child in you. And, your children will love the new trampoline you got installed in your backward. So much that they might actually neglect their videogames. And that, as you have probably realized by now, is a difficult job.
Your entire family can have fun bouncing on a trampoline. There is no actual age restriction on who can or cannot jump on one, provided the weight and safety requirements are met. Being an adult, bouncing might feel silly, but wait till you get a few good bounces; you’ll care less and less about what anyone thinks. Once you have decided on purchasing a trampoline, the next job is to find the one that best fits your requirements.
All trampolines are like springs and they work on the principles of exchange of potential and kinetic energy. The jumping motion transfers kinetic energy of the person to the membrane, which then releases the energy by propelling the person on it. The velocity and the weight of the bouncing person determines how much energy is transferred. This is why the bounce height increases with every bounce.
Trampolines come in many shapes, sizes, and price points. Compromising on quality is never a good idea. The better ones cost a few dollars more, but that’s the price you pay for safety. Safety is important because modern trampolines are capable of high bounces. A cheap, poor quality trampoline can rupture and cause injury. Even with a good product, you should install enclosures/nets to ensure the safety of your kids.
The type, shape and enclosure design are the most important criteria you should decide on when purchasing a trampoline. There are recreational and competitive models, the competitive models are sturdier. And, if your yard space is limited, get one of the mini models especially suitable for kids. Trampolines come in all shapes ranging from triangular to octagonal. Remember, the greater the number of ties to the frame the sturdier the membrane is. Lastly, don’t forget to assemble the frame properly. You don’t want any nasty surprises, do you?
