Villa – Greatest Discoveries
Games Guy | January 27, 2011
It’s Premier League match time at Villa Park on Saturday, December 11, when Aston Villa host West Brom Albion in match week 17.
I believed I would take a break from my usual financial meanderings and write about a recent trip my wife and I took to Spain. Like most Brits we craved for a bit of winter sun as well as the current weather in the UK quite a lot pushed us onto a plane with out too very much resistance.
Of course us Brits enjoy Spain due to its close proximity and abundance of English speaking residents in particular inside the South. However we had a hankering for something that got us close towards the warmer parts but not the “bucket and spade brigade”.
Aston Villa are coming off a disappointing 3-0 loss to Liverpool, their fourth defeat on the trot. With just one win in their final 10 games, Villa are low on confidence. This was evident within the first goal for the Reds on 13 minutes that resulted from a corner right after Warnock conceded the ball to Kuyt.
After slightly net searching we came across a rented villa, not by way of a major organization but privately. Modern looking, private pool, all mod cons plus a view to die for. I was a bit hesitant at having to drive 45 minutes from Malaga Airport up the coast and into the hills but in truth the drive was so effortless on one straight road I had absolutely nothing to fear.
With just the lone striker in Agbonlahor, a fight-back seemed increasingly unlikely, even as Roy Hodgson’s squad doubled two minutes later. Villan’s only scoring chance came instantly following the break when Agbonlahor took a shot at aim off a Downing cross only to determine Reina bring off a half-save cleared by Konchesky.
The villa we rented was perched on a sloping hillside just outside a delightful village named Alcaucin, described as a “chocolate box” village and definitely lived as much as its reputation. Below was Lake Vinuela a beautiful blue ocean tucked between the rolling hills. We already felt relaxed.
Two back-to-back wins have taken the Baggies to ninth position inside the table. After they went ahead on 32 minutes through a Tchoyi strike, Newcastle got an chance to equalise quickly following the interval but Carson was equalt to the process as he saved a Taylor shot.
Di Matteo’s squad were efficient in defence even as they negated the twin threats of Carroll and Ameobi, and when Odemwingie scored on 71 minutes, he had secured the game for Albion.
three smart bedrooms, 2 clean bathrooms, contemporary kitchen, lounge and diner all kitted out with household comforts. not that we had been going to spend a whole lot of time here however it was good to understand we had been not going to slum it. Outside we had our personal private pool, brick BBQ area and sun terrace with wonderful views down the hillside.
After 16 match weeks, Aston Villa are in 16th position within the points table, on the brink of the relegation zone, even though West Brom have jumped up to ninth.
