What Can You Do This Summer?

knowledge | July 19, 2010

At the moment we are having a fantastic summer so far. But you don’t want to bet against English weather as we all know. People in the UK die for hot weather hence most people are always going abroad to enjoy milder and sunnier weather. We are all in the look out for fun activities as soon as we get milder and sunnier weather. Some enjoy going for a swim in the local swimming pools or the beach. Some have bbq parties to enjoy the weather with their family and friends. Season for cricket also starts in the summer in UK, so a lot of people enjoy watching and playing cricket over the weekend.

As you can see we have a lot to do during the summer time but we just don’t have big enough summer to do all this. I will be talking about which activities are most used by people in the UK during summer. The research in the past has shown that, swimming pools are used double amount by the same people in summer than winter. Swimming is definitely one of the best recommendations as it is also good for your body.

Another research shows an interesting piece of information that parents spend a lot on toys for their kids around the summer. Children are always on the look out for summer toys which they can ask their parents to buy during the summer time. Trampolines and climbing frames are being sold left, right and centre in the UK. You will see trampoline or other outdoor product in the back garden of most households these days. The good thing of having a outdoor toy in your back garden is that when you are having a bbq party or just relaxing in the garden you can keep an eye on your kids other than having to worry about where they are and what they are doing.

Many people have started getting above ground pools in their property nowadays so they don’t have to visit the gym everyday. Yes you do require swimming pool equipments such as pool covers and swimming pool chemicals, but it’s worth it.

So swim to stay fit and healthy this summer.

Caring For Your Horse in the Hot Weather

knowledge | May 3, 2010

It is over 40 degrees in the cooking sunshine and you can’t even walk outdoors without feeling like you’ve been drained of every bit of energy you ever had. If you are feeling this way, imagine how a horse feels.  Basically the same.  If you’re hot, your horse will be too.

What can you do to further cool it down?

At all times have a good amount of fresh, clean, cool water on hand.  It is really difficult for them in heat like that to stay too long with no water.   It’s always the right idea not to exercise them too much in high temperature and high humidity.  It is really hard work on their bodies.  Also, if you need to work them, be VERY cautious about letting them drink when you’re finished.  Only permit them to have small amounts and spread those quantities out over a period of time.  If you’re exercising them slow and they aren’t sweating and heaving, provide him a drink at the least each half-hour.

You might believe this seems funny, but think about it.  Do not put your water dish out in the open sun.  Why?  Because the water in it might get so hot it could burn your horses mouth.  Position the bowl or pail in the shadows.

Another cool down tip, your horse loves cool bathes – not ice cold – but cool water spray from your hosepipe over their legs, back and chest.  Occasionally, some horses are nervous about water over their heads, so stay away from that area.  Normally, the first thing it usually does after having been bathed is turn over in the mud and build themselves an effective insect screen outside layer on their coats.  The bugs are fierce in scorching climate.  If you do not own a hosepipe with a spray nozzle, then sponge his face and head off with cooler water.

Even though you leave a salt block outside, it won’t be adequate for those viciously hot days.  You’ll need to get extra salt on hand.  All you have to do is include some table salt to his feed or hay.  He’ll eat what he needs.  The majority of equines sweat about enough to want four ounces of salt on a daily basis in scorching weather conditions.
