Briton Breaks Lake Malawi Swimming Record

| January 16, 2012

Abigail Brown, a British swimmer recently broke a 25km swimming record across the fresh waters of Lake Malawi in a new time of 9 hours, 45 minutes and 35 seconds. The previous record was set by a South African duo Lewis Pugh and Otto Thaning who previously held the record since 1992. Her first attempt at the record failed as her guide had trouble navigating her through the rough waters due to stormy weather. Abigail said “My plans were to swim across Lake Malawi and I am glad that in the end I managed to break the record.” She was escorted on her trip by three patrol boats, two of which were monitoring the Lake’s currents and the other boat was her support boat which would have been called into action should she have required assistance. She has now issued a rallying call for any Malawians who think they can beat her time by giving it a try.

Abigail’s swimming achievement helped bring media interest not only within Africa but also internationally. The coverage of the event was global which helped increase people’s awareness of a continent and country they are perhaps not so familiar with. The majority of people travelling to Africa do so on a Tanzania safari and have very little knowledge of Africa as a whole. By achieving her goal Abigail has opened up Lake Malawi as a reputable destination to travel to for thousands of people around the world, and there have been many cases where foreign internationals have achieved success in Africa which has helped drive the destination forward. A team of celebrities from the UK climbed Mt Kilimanjaro in 2009 for charity and raised millions of pounds as well as promoting Tanzania as a tourist destination. Celebrities seem to give a destination more credibility which is met with intrigue by interested on-lookers.

Maybe next time you travel on a Zambia safari you will also hit the slopes of Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, or the shores of Lake Malawi as part of your African adventure. In a continent full of magical wonders lie some of the most astonishing, secretive camps, bedded well into the wildness. The Abu Camp is one of these resorts that if you have the money to travel to, it’s an opportunity not worth missing out on.

You Need Not Run In Distance In A Soccer Training

| October 27, 2010

If you interested in playing football (or soccer as it is known in the US) or if you are an experienced player, you might already realise that there is a lot of wrong information and routines that are used by unknowledgeable football trainers. Every football player and coach must try and educate himself that training methods have evolved. To get the required fitness and strength to play the game well, it is now the moment to make use of modern and sophisticated physical training programs.

Performing long distance running is probably the most typical soccer fitness mistakes. Many teams still use this as part of their overall fitness progra as many people still recommend running for long distances for footballers.

The truth is long distance running is not needed for the football fitness. The sad part is, those recommending long distance running often have good football as far as skills and tactics are concerned, but have little knowledge of fitness. Several online football teachers are merely really thinking about selling badly researched information products to amateur footballers as they recommend long distance running for football fitness.

It might appear counter-intuitive but in case you are a significant football player and you want to get good fitness, you should avoid mistakes such as long distance running one-paced non-explosive running.

The interval training workouts and sprints are the matter that an excellent soccer fitness program should consist of. Given that, for the whole game time there isn’t any player that is always running. Even the most lively of player will be running and then stopping as the game will have natural stoppages for things such as injuries, free-kicks and corners. For this type of stop/start type of sport, interval training will prepare the average footballer is much better.

Sorry to say, between football trainers and coaches, this sort of obsolete thinking is still really common. Unlike marathon runners, a football player needs to act fast and change direction all of the time. Through training to become a marathon runner, he merely is not going to get enough strength for playing football.

The player who was forced to run around five kilometers per day on a concrete track as part of his exercise routine is a poor training method that is still existing. This type of training can cause strain and stress injuries, and also can be mentally dulling. When you are formulating a soccer fitness program, these mistakes that can cause injury should be avoided at all costs.

As opposed to athletes have for running long distances, football players don’t have a similar type of attributes to them. It’s going to run the risk of adversely affecting both a footballer’s both mental and physical capacity in reality.

Little intervals including jogging, sprinting, dribbling etc. would be the soccer working out that must definitely be done. With regard to exercise, football players can begin to play small games where they can do lot more stopping and direction changing. These movements will of course help them to react fast in the game. In football a player has to train to recuperate his strength in intervals as it is not a nonstop game.
