As mentioned above, the cloth on the table surface will have a major impact and may cause friction and reduce the speed of the balls and reducing the backspin. This is why beginners have difficulty-using backspin. Many players find it very difficult to draw the cue ball over long distances because it is really hard to put enough backspin on the cue ball to accomplish the task.
