When A UK Activity Holiday Isn’t As Good As You Thought It Would Be

A few evenings ago my family and I were spending a rare night in together. It doesn’t happen as often as I would like, so when it does it’s good reason to have a laugh.

In a few months time my daughter is off to Spain on a school trip and we were all talking about how much she will be missed whilst she is away – NOT.

Anyway it took me back to my youth and although my school trips weren’t quite so glamorous as Spain, they were a huge part of me growing up.

However a UK short breaks trip was the limit of my very first (and last) school holiday when we visited Wales.  Glamorous it wasn’t.   We actually stayed in some God awful caravans in the middle of nowhere and all I can remember is how cold it was.   The company the school had booked the holiday with was dubbed as a UK activity holidays specialist.   They have actually gone out of business now, and to be honest that doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. They didn’t have a clue about anything and the activities they planned for us all were atrocious. One of the activities we had to do was canoeing on the lake and we also had to learn how to rotate our canoe so at one point we were submerged in the water and then we had to right ourselves. Now this itself was pretty rubbish, but it was the midst of January, so imagine how freezing cold the water was. We also had to have a go at mountain climbing. With the mountains being covered in snow and ice, you can imagine how dangerous this was for us youngsters.

At least when she goes on her trip to Spain the weather should be pretty nice.   I just hope she doesn’t get up too much mischief.

Whilst she is away with the school, I am thinking of returning to Wales for a little holiday of my own.   This time though I will not be staying in some damp and smelly caravan, holiday cottages Wales are my preferred choice of accommodation and I intend to book one with all the mod cons and enjoy all that Wales has to offer me.
